The root cause of loose bowel movement is diarrhea. It can be caused due to the problems such as infection, absorptive, inflammatory bowel disease and irritating bowel syndrome also known as IBS.
Majority of us must be aware that the main cause of diarrhea is common bacterial infection which may be due to the consumption of contaminated water or food.
One of the most common causes of loose bowel movements is food poisoning and traveler’s diarrhea. It is known to occur as a result of eating food or drinking water contaminated with bacteria or parasites.
Another commonly known cause of diarrhea is viral gastroenteritis, a mild viral infection which goes away on its own in few days time. This condition is often called the stomach flu. Viral gastroenteritis often occurs in mini-epidemics in schools, neighbourhoods, or families.
Sometimes the medications, especially antibiotics, laxatives containing magnesium, and chemotherapy for cancer treatment, can also cause loose bowel movements.
